The Origin of the Universe

Perhaps the most consistent overlap between science and religion concerns the origin of the universe. Almost every religion begins with a statement to the effect of “God created the universe.” You might think that this comes into direct confrontation with science, but that is not necessarily the case. Scientists often make some assumptions about the initial conditions. In this case, God could be part of setting the initial conditions, and theory’s predictions could take over just after the creation!
